Luv's news: Greatest Lover's latest cover, Marga in Privé, Luv' dolls, 192TV's tribute to Van Hemert

Here is Luv's latest news from late 2022 and early 2023:


* Luv's signature song, "You're the Greatest Lover", has been covered numerous times. The latest cover of this classic hit dates back to November 25th when German DJ Clubstone released his EDM version entitled "Greatest Lover" through digital platforms (including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon Music and Spotify). Italian singer Vicky recorded the vocals on Clubstone's latest production.

"You're the Greatest Lover" by Luv' was originally released by Philips/Phonogram Records in July 1978. The track, written by Hans van Hemert and Piet Souer, was a number-one hit in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, and Spain. It peaked at #2 in Austria, #26 in Finland, #19 in Israel and #15 in South Africa. The single went platinum in the Netherlands (150.000 copies) and gold in Germany (650.000 copies). In France, the song was renamed "Sing me, sing me a chanson", reached #19 on the SNEP chart, and sold 60.000 copies. In early 1979, Phonogram/Philips Records announced that the record had sold 1 million copies worldwide.

* The December 28th, 2022, issue of Privé magazine featured a short article about Marga Scheide's New Year's wishes. The former Luv' singer expressed her point of view on several topical issues (energy crisis, inflation, ecology, taxes, driving in electric cars...).

* On January 22nd, Cw Miniaturen Dolls posted pictures of Luv' dolls wearing the 1977 "My Man" costumes on its Facebook page.



* Today, Dutch channel 192TV will broadcast at 4.00 pm a special program about the greatest hits of the legendary record producer and songwriter Hans van Hemert.


In addition to Luv', Hans produced many hit singles for Mouth & MacNeal, Q65, The Motions, Ro-d-ys, Zen, Group 1850, Big Wheel, Somerset, Ramses Shaffy and Liesbeth List, Sandra & Andres, Kamahl, American Gypsy, Vulcano, André Hazes and Glennis Grace. He was Holland's most successful producer from the late 1960s to the 1980s. In 2017, he won the "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the Buma Awards (the most prestigious music ceremony in the Netherlands).



He also composed three songs for the Eurovision Song Contest: "Als het om de liefde gaat" by Sandra & Andres (#4 in 1972), "Ik Zie Een Ster" ("I See A Star") by Mouth & MacNeal (#3 in 1974) and "The Party's Over" by Sandra Reemer (#9 in 1976).



His best-selling production is "How do you do" by Mouth & MacNeal (from 1971). This classic pop song hit the number one spot in the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland and New Zealand. It reached #5 in Germany and #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the USA. Selling over a million copies in America alone, global sales exceeded two million. This track has been covered and sampled on many occasions.


Two of the songs Van Hemert wrote and produced for Luv', "You're the Greatest Lover" and "Trojan Horse", both released in 1978, sold one million copies each thanks to their success in Continental Europe, Israel, South Africa, Zimbabwe, New Zealand and Argentina.


The Dutch Pop Maestro collected 40 gold and platinum records as well as several trophies, including:

  • Two Conamus Export Prizes for his international success: in 1972 (with Mouth & MacNeal) and 1979 (with Luv').

  • A Gouden Harp (Golden Harp) in 1974 for his talents as a producer.

  • An ASCAP award in the United States for the song "How Do You Do" by Mouth & MacNeal.
